Career Low Points

Digging around I found a copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special originally airing—I think—in 1978.

I don't recall ever watching the thing as a child, which stands to reason because it's utterly forgettable. Just getting the cast (sans Alec Guinness, of course) together for the thing is impressive enough, but to have them willing to come back and do another film (much less three) after embarassing themselves in this pap is incredible.

I skipped grabbling clips of Art Carney, Bea Arthur, and Jefferson Starship, but couldn't resist sharing one of Harvy Korman.

Korman has proven himself talented time and again. 1974 saw Blazing Saddles, and even as late as 1977 he was still making it work in High Anxiety. Perhaps the end of his ten-year run on The Carol Burnett Show hit particularly hard. Perhaps he was hungry for work. Perhaps he saw a cash cow when he saw it and wanted in on the franchise. Perhaps he was drunk. Who knows? It was the same year that he appeared on The John Davidson Christmas Special, after all.
